“Biological instrumentation and obturation in combination with Effective Retreatment & obturation”

Course leader: Martin Trope, Bekir Karabucak, Meetu Kohli

Participants will gain training in:

Three Dimensional Root Cleaning and Synchronized, Hydraulic, Bioceramic Root Filling: Bio-minimalistic 3-D cleaning and bioceramic root filling technologies will be discussed. New technologies promise excellent results for vital and non-vital teeth both for prevention and for treatment of apical periodontitis and for the long-term survivability of the tooth will be shared. Participants will perform effective, hands-on exercises on plastic blocks as well as realistic simulated models of natural teeth. This establishes a foundation for predictable and safe rotary NiTi instrumentation of the root canal system. New 3-D technology that allows for superior cleaning of the root canal system in all dimensions with minimal removal of dentin will be introduced. Irrigation protocol propped by PennEndo will be discussed and demonstrated. The limitations of gutta-percha obturation will be presented and state-of-the art, bioactive obturation techniques and concepts will be highlighted during the course.

Retreatment with new Three Dimensional files that allow for effective and easy gutta percha removal from the canals. Synchronized, Hydraulic, Bioceramic Root Filling: The key to successful retreatment is adequate disinfection. In order to allow for irrigation and medication to effectively remove the persisting intracanal infection responsible for the persistent disease, the previously filled gutta percha and sealer have to be efficiently removed. XP file system has proven to an excellent tool to achieve this aim. Along with finisher files the re-instrumented canals are cleaner both of debris and biofilm. After biomechanical instrumentation, obturation technique with bioceramic sealer and gutta percha will be demonstrated to reseal the canal hermetically.

By the end of the session the participant should be able to instrument and obturate 2 plastic teeth/blocks of various complexities in an adept structured workflow, which is repeatable, and easily transferable to their clinical practice. Each participant will be presented with a certificate from the University of Pennsylvania for successful completion of the hands-on training.

Participants will perform effective, hands-on exercises on upto 2 previously filled extracted teeth that they will bring with them. Most effective ways to remove gutta percha will be utilized and then obturation with bioactive materials shown. Each participant will be presented with a certificate from the University of Pennsylvania for successful completion of the hands-on training.
